Bolivian Haze

A short visit to La Paz, Bolivia, was enough to get a good glimpse of the city and its culture.
Between the folklore and the modern, there hides a charming roughness, rich in identity and colour. A shocking contrast between the mess of the valley and the dizzying altitude of the mountains that surround it. From El Alto with its massive Sunday market and weird architecture, and the astonishing gondola rides, to the urban sprawl, the late night food cart visits, the deafening city centre, the talismans, the hidden art markets and the traffic jams. Messy, wild, but inviting!
Rough and uneven edges, bumpy elegant curves and vivid colours were the only option for this lettering piece and these posters.
Photos shot in 35mm film in La Paz, Bolivia. Hand drawn lettering, digitally edited in Illustrator, later painted in oil pastels, edited in Photoshop.
